Robocop Movie Reboot - Robocop Remake

There have been talks of a remake of Robocop since quite a while. But most attempts to revive the cop cyborg failed, and that MGM's financial woes didn't help either. But the recent online frenzy around a planned Robocop statue in Detroit that will be financed by fans must have stoked the studio's interest in developing a remake of Robocop: Scriptwriter Josh Zetumer has indeed been hired by MGM to pen a screenplay for a reboot of Robocop. A director has even been announced: Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha, who helmed Elite Squad, got the job.

For those who don't know, Robocop is set in a dystopian and crime ridden Detroit, a terminally wounded cop returns to duty as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him. The film was a real success and a franchise was created, it also spawned a TV series and a comic book series. Here's the movie trailer of the original Robocop:

Really glad that this reboot of Robocop is finally greenlit. I'm confident in Director Jose Padilha's ability to deliver a great action film, he proved his talent with Elite Squad.

Anyway, more information about the new Robocop movie as soon as details emerge.
